Test: TwinPegs – Improved balance and comfort

Can something as simple as an additional footpeg change the way a motorcycle feels to ride? Norway’s TwinPegs promises improved balance and greater comfort when riding standing up – particularly off-road. We tested whether it really makes a difference, both on gravel roads and in more demanding conditions.

TwinPegs is a new product developed and manufactured in Norway, offering a wider – or perhaps more accurately, dual – footpeg setup. This can enhance comfort, but above all improves balance when riding standing up on more challenging terrain. While primarily designed to provide better control and handling during more advanced off-road riding, there is also reason to explore what it can offer for more typical gravel road riding – both in terms of balance and comfort when standing.

Installation and Adjustment

To achieve the correct height – depending on body type, riding position and motorcycle – a set of shims is included to aid adjustment. These can be altered later if your needs change. TwinPegs are designed to fit specific models – in this case a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 – but the product is available for a wide range of brands including BMW, AJP, GASGAS, KTM, Ducati, Husqvarna, Honda and Yamaha. Check the TwinPegs website to confirm compatibility with your particular model.

The riding experience

My usual approach is “sit when you can and stand when you must”, but with TwinPegs I found myself standing more often during the test. Standing isn’t just about improving balance on tricky surfaces – it can also be a welcome way to stretch and gain a better view of the road and surroundings.

When the surface becomes looser – for example after grading or when fresh gravel has been laid – riding standing up offers better control. In these situations, it’s particularly noticeable how much more comfortable the footing becomes when the heel is also supported, and how both steering feel and balance improve.

Gravel touring and winter riding

This test was primarily carried out during the summer season, focusing on gravel touring rather than advanced off-road riding. The conclusion is that TwinPegs contribute to improved comfort when riding standing up, as well as better balance. Further testing is planned for winter riding, where the wider platform may prove especially beneficial when wearing bulky snowmobile boots.

Conclusion

TwinPegs exude solid build quality – and quality comes at a price. At around €280 it’s up to each rider to decide whether the investment is worthwhile based on individual needs. For enduro or off-road riding, the benefits are more pronounced, but there are clear advantages for gravel road riding as well, both in terms of comfort and balance.
