2026 Yamaha WR125R

Yamaha has introduced the WR125R – a nimble and versatile motorcycle designed to deliver just as much riding enjoyment on tarmac as on gravel. Powered by a compact 125 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), the WR125R is aimed both at new riders eager to explore adventure on two wheels and at experienced motorcyclists seeking a simple, economical and reliable everyday companion.

At the heart of the WR125R lies a modern 125cc engine featuring Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system. The technology employs two distinct cam profiles – one for low to mid-range revs, and another for higher engine speeds – which automatically switch depending on rpm and throttle input.

According to Yamaha, the result is a power delivery that feels larger than its actual displacement, offering smooth, consistent performance and strong torque across the rev range. The electronic fuel injection ensures precise throttle response, and fuel range is quoted at nearly 300 km per tank.

Suspension for both road and trail

Just like Yamaha’s larger WR and YZ models, the WR125R uses KYB suspension front and rear, tuned for an ideal balance of comfort and control. At the front, there’s a 41 mm inverted fork with 215 mm of travel, while the rear features a link-type KYB monoshock offering 185 mm of travel.

Braking duties are handled by a 267 mm front disc with a twin-piston caliper and a 220 mm rear disc, complemented by a Bosch-developed front ABS system.

Inspired by Yamaha’s competition bikes

The WR125R takes its styling cues from Yamaha’s WR and YZ race machines, with slim bodywork, a flat and narrow seat, and an aggressive front end featuring dual LED headlights.

The semi double-cradle frame combines low weight with high rigidity, optimised for off-road agility. Despite its compact proportions, the riding position is roomy and designed to accommodate riders of various sizes.

Built for the connected rider

The WR125R isn’t just about analogue adventure — it’s fully connected too. Yamaha has equipped it with Yamaha Motorcycle Connect (Y-Connect), a Bluetooth-enabled system that links the bike to a smartphone via a free app.

Riders can view call and message notifications, track fuel consumption and ride data, and even locate their motorcycle via GPS positioning. All information is displayed clearly on the LCD instrument panel.

Arriving November 2025

The Yamaha WR125R (2026) will be available in Team Yamaha Blue or Black, with deliveries starting in November 2025.

Combining modern technology, approachable performance and genuine dual-sport capability, the WR125R fills an important role in Yamaha’s line-up – as an accessible, affordable entry point into the world of adventure riding.
