Mips acquires Koroyd – strengthens its position in helmet safety

The Swedish safety technology company Mips has acquired Monaco-based Koroyd, a specialist in impact protection technology. The transaction forms part of Mips’ long-term strategy to broaden and strengthen its technology offering within helmet safety and adjacent protective products.

Koroyd is known for its patented structure of hollow tubes, which effectively absorb energy in the event of a collision while also providing good ventilation and low weight. Koroyd’s technology is currently used across several segments, including motorcycle and snowsports helmets, construction safety equipment, and child safety products such as car seats. The company has previously collaborated with a number of well-known brands, and its material is easily recognisable due to its distinctive green colour.

According to Mips, Koroyd will continue to operate as an independent company with its own brand and organisation. Commenting on the acquisition, Mips CEO Max Strandwitz said that the deal strengthens the company’s market position:

“The acquisition of Koroyd is an important step in our long-term strategy to establish Mips as a leader in helmet safety. The combination of our technologies creates new opportunities both within helmets and in other adjacent product areas.”

Mips is best known for its technology designed to reduce harmful rotational forces during angled impacts to the head, an area that has received increasing attention in helmet research in recent years. Together with Koroyd’s linear impact absorption, the company sees opportunities to develop even more advanced protective solutions.
