2026 Ducati Monster 890

The original Monster from 1992 created an entirely new class of motorcycle by combining a sport bike chassis with an everyday riding position. The new generation follows the same fundamental idea – but takes a clear step into the future.

The new Monster draws inspiration from several generations – from Miguel Galluzzi’s iconic original to the minimalist 2021 design. The result is a machine that blends compact lightness with the classic Monster silhouette.

The tank’s broad shoulders and narrow waist give the bike both an aggressive stance and excellent ergonomics. The side panels are not merely design elements – they help direct heat away from the radiator and provide a grippy surface under braking.

Engine and performance

Power comes from Ducati’s new 890 cc V2 engine with desmodromic valve control and variable intake timing (DVT). It produces around 111 hp at 9,000 rpm and 91 Nm at 7,250 rpm, with 80 percent of the torque available from as low as 4,000 rpm.

The engine is a stressed member of the chassis, contributing to an impressively low kerb weight of around 185 kg fully fuelled.

Chassis and suspension

The frame is a lightweight aluminium monocoque, while the rear subframe combines a visible steel trellis with technopolymer elements – a nod to the Monster’s heritage.

Suspension is handled by a 43 mm inverted Showa fork at the front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear. Travel is 130 mm front and 145 mm rear, tuned for both everyday comfort and sporty performance.

Brakes and electronics

Braking is managed by a Brembo system with twin 320 mm front discs and radial-mounted four-piston M4.32 calipers, plus a 245 mm rear disc. The system is governed by Bosch Cornering ABS.

Ducati has also equipped the Monster with a comprehensive electronics package that includes:

  • Four riding modes: Sport, Road, Urban and Wet
  • Ducati Traction Control (DTC)
  • Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC)
  • Engine Brake Control (EBC)
  • Ride-by-wire throttle system

All functions are managed via a 5-inch TFT display operated through a new joystick controller.

Ergonomics and equipment

The riding position is slightly more upright than before thanks to a higher and slightly forward-placed handlebar. The seat height is 817 mm – a little lower than on the previous model – and the saddle itself is narrower, improving reach to the ground.

Lighting is full LED throughout, including daytime running lights (DRL).
Ducati will offer two versions: the standard Monster and the Monster+, which adds a passenger seat cover and a small flyscreen above the headlamp.

The new Ducati Monster will launch in spring 2026 in Ducati Red and Iceberg White.
