2027 BMW F450 GS
“With the new BMW F450 GS, we are presenting a true BMW GS in the 48-horsepower class. It embodies the essence of a GS: get on, open the throttle and have fun – with full control and complete trust,” says Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW Motorrad.
New engine, familiar GS character
At the heart of the F450 GS is a 420 cc parallel-twin engine producing 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm. The liquid-cooled motor features a 135° crank offset, giving it the distinctive GS sound and smooth power delivery. A counter-rotating balance shaft reduces vibration, while the DOHC cylinder heads, four valves per cylinder, forged rocker arms, and a 13.0:1 compression ratio ensure efficiency and quick throttle response through BMW’s E-Gas electronic throttle system.
Innovative clutch technology
One of the most notable features is the Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) – standard on the GS Trophy version. This centrifugal clutch automatically engages based on engine speed, allowing the rider to start and shift without using the clutch lever. It’s particularly useful in city traffic or off-road conditions, yet can be operated manually at any time. Importantly, full engine braking is retained for a natural feel and control.
Together with Gear Shift Assist Pro, which enables clutchless up- and downshifts, the ERC system brings a new level of comfort and refinement to the mid-size adventure class.
Chassis and suspension
Up front, the F450 GS features a 43 mm KYB fork, while the rear employs a centrally mounted shock absorber with BMW’s WAD technology (progressive damping that stiffens under heavy compression). Suspension travel is 180 mm front and rear, with the Trophy version receiving a Sport Suspension package offering adjustable compression and rebound damping.
Wheels are 19-inch front and 17-inch rear, with cast aluminium rims on the standard model and tubeless wire-spoked wheels on the Trophy version. Brakes are supplied by Brembo — a 310 mm disc with four-piston caliper at the front and a 240 mm disc at the rear, backed by ABS Pro, which ensures safe braking even when cornering.
Electronics and riding modes
The F450 GS includes three standard riding modes: Rain, Road, and Enduro, while the Trophy model adds Enduro Pro, which allows the rear ABS and traction control to be deactivated for off-road use.
The electronics suite includes:
- ABS Pro (cornering ABS)
- Dynamic Traction Control (DTC)
- Dynamic Brake Control (DBC)
- Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR)
Comfort and equipment
A two-piece seat comes as standard at 845 mm, with lower (830 mm) and Rally (865 mm) seat options available. All models are equipped with full LED lighting, heated grips, and a 6.5-inch TFT colour display with full BMW Motorrad Connectivity.
The screen, operated via BMW’s Multicontroller on the left handlebar, displays navigation, calls, music and ride data in two GS-specific layouts – Pure Ride and Sport – with additional readouts such as lean angle and brake pressure.
GS Trophy Edition
For selected European markets, the F450 GS Trophy edition will be offered in Racing Blue Metallic with a white frame.
This version includes:
- Easy Ride Clutch (ERC)
- Gear Shift Assist Pro
- Sport Suspension
- Riding Modes Pro
- Wire-spoked wheels
- Rally screen
The stainless-steel exhaust system features dual catalytic converters and complies with Euro 5+ regulations. Each model comes with BMW Ultimate Care Break-In Service, covering the first service within six months or 1,200 km.
BMW describes the F450 GS as a completely new design in the sub-500 cc segment, drawing clear design influence from its flagship R 1300 GS.
“With its typical GS silhouette, recognisable radiator grille, distinctive light signature and slim tail section, the F450 GS deliberately takes inspiration from its big sister, the R 1300 GS,” explains Alexander Buckan, BMW Motorrad’s Head of Design.
The BMW F450 GS is expected to arrive in European dealerships in late 2026 or early 2027. Pricing details will be announced closer to launch.
