MC thoughts – a holiday reflection
Winter has laid its blanket over the roads. The tarmac that once sang beneath the tyres now lies hidden under frost and snow. In garages across the country our bikes stand silent, wrapped in covers – sleeping friends waiting to be woken. You can almost hear the echo of the engine that used to be there, a faint whisper of warm winds and open roads.
Sometimes you sneak out into the cold just to check on it. You rest your hand on the cool tank and let the memories take over. There’s the moment by the lake – the coffee steaming in the morning sun, that stillness that only appears when the engine has gone quiet… and that last soft ticking sound as the metal cools. A sound that reminds you everything inside is still alive, simply waiting.
So how do we deal with this winter yearning, when the roads have closed for the season?
Perhaps by letting summer live on in our stories.
Invite your mates over, light a candle, pour the coffee and let the photos and memories roll like a film. The rain shower that came out of nowhere. That gravel road none of us really knew where it led – but which became one of the best rides of the entire year.
Because when we remember together, something is rekindled.
The warmth, the joy, the sense of belonging.
And somewhere in the darkness our motorcycles are dreaming with us – dreaming of the sound of the starter motor, the smell of warm tarmac and the wind whispering in the helmet once more:
“Time to ride again.”
/Stefan – who has already begun dreaming of the first ride.
