Halvarssons Vinvallen – a comfortable and flexible all-round suit
The Vinvallen is part of Halvarssons’ Premium All Season range and is designed to cope with all kinds of weather. With wind and waterproof protection, removable insulation and ventilation, the suit can be adapted to suit different temperatures and riding conditions.
Comfortable from the moment you put it on
The first thing I notice when I put the suit on is just how soft and flexible it feels.
Some textile motorcycle suits can be quite stiff, particularly before they’ve had a chance to break in. That’s not the case with the Vinvallen. The material moves with my body and provides plenty of freedom of movement without feeling loose or flimsy. It’s comfortable to wear, both on and off the bike.
That feeling has remained throughout the entire test period. I’ve never felt restricted by the suit or found myself desperate to get out of it after a long day’s riding.
Ventilation that works
I’ve also tested the Vinvallen on some seriously hot days, with temperatures approaching 30°C.
A black motorcycle suit and blazing sunshine aren’t exactly an ideal combination, but the Vinvallen handled the heat better than I expected.
The jacket has ventilation openings on the chest and sleeves, along with an open ventilation design at the back that allows air to flow through while riding. The trousers have ventilation openings at the front of the thighs and at the back.
Warm and dry
When temperatures dropped, the insulating liners came into their own.
On colder rides, I kept the liners in place and added another layer underneath. This kept me warm and comfortable without making the suit unnecessarily bulky.
The temperature was fairly low during my rain test. And anyone who’s spent a considerable amount of time riding in the rain knows that it often feels much colder than the thermometer suggests.
Despite that, I stayed both warm and dry.
The Dryway 20/20 membrane is windproof and waterproof, while allowing moisture vapour to escape. The jacket has additional waterproof reinforcement on the inside of the sleeves, while the trousers have similar reinforcement around the seat and crotch.
Level 2 protection and AA certification
The Vinvallen is CE-certified to class AA. The jacket features HI-ART reinforcements over the shoulders and elbows, along with adjustable Level 2 protectors. It is also prepared for both back and chest protectors.
The trousers have HI-ART reinforcements over the hips, knees and seat, with adjustable Level 2 protectors at both the knees and hips.
The jacket is also Airbag Ready, featuring expansion panels that provide room for an airbag vest. The jacket and trousers can be connected using a full-length connecting zip.
Room for improvement
After testing the suit, it’s actually quite difficult to find much to complain about, but there is one thing.
I would have liked a little more storage space. The existing pockets aren’t particularly large. For a suit that works so well for touring and long days on the bike, a few more pockets, or simply larger ones, would have been welcome.
An excellent all-round suit
The Vinvallen has left me with a very positive overall impression.
What I particularly like is the combination of the soft, flexible material and the ability to use the same suit in a wide range of conditions. When it’s really hot, the Vinvallen naturally gets warm too, but the ventilation does its job. As temperatures fall, you can add the insulating liners and extra layers. And when the rain arrives, the suit keeps the water out.
That makes the Halvarssons Vinvallen exactly what a good all-round motorcycle suit should be: something you can put on without having to worry too much about what the weather might have in store around the next corner.
